If the propagation is acting as a wave then in his last point the wave wouldn’t “bottle up” it would reflect as waves of any type do.

The "bottle up" notion is the part of my explanation I'm least comfortable with. As you say, waves don't bottle up, they move. In his FAQ, dutch describes the effect as a pressure build-up rather than wave movement. E.g.:
