Something to add to the wexner rabbit hole:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foxcote_House
“the Wexners “have spent a fortune on new windows and they have done lots of marvellous things” but that they had also turned the house into a “...glorified shooting lodge. It is not what I would have called fabulous inside.”[2]”
...shooting lodge?...hunting...what...?
I suspect that the shooting/hunting is of the "best double gun, tweed jacket and driven game followed by port in the billiard room" variety. Ludicrous, but traditional amongst those with country estates. On the other hand, Les has been a naughty boy, and perhaps he has been flushing out more than partridges down at Foxcote House.
I did like the cheeky, somewhat snobbish description given by the woman whose ancestor ironically made money as a tradesman rather than being part of the peerage. I suppose allowances must be made when an upstart American who made his fortune via somewhat vulgar businesses boasts about saving a manor and claiming that it had been deteriorating under previous ownership. Bad show, eh, what?
