When heavyweights collide, the impact is always colossal.
First, there's the anticipation, and for feverish excitement, no match at this Women's World Cup has yet to compare to Friday's quarterfinal clash between the US and France.
There is a reason why ticket prices have gone in the same direction as the mercury during this week's European heat wave.
This is the world's top-ranked team going head-to-head against the fourth best team in the world. The defending champion versus the host. An irresistible attack against an uncompromising defense. It is "Le Grand Match." It is a match that is helping propel women's football even further into the sporting mainstream.

Yep. Never understand the tournaments that go right to PKs with no extra time.
Rather see them increase the number of subs. if they are worried about over-taxing the players.
Also have to say, when Liverpool first signed Allison I raised my eyebrows, but now I think he might be the best in the world - based on his play both here and in the PL.
Amazing that with Brazil’s talent, they’ve been pretty underwhelming so far.
On my vacations to Honduras I'd always see kids playing soccer on uncut fields and barefooted with a beat up old ball.......
With that being said, I'm not a soccer fan but I was looking forward to watching the US team. But after the comments of that one player and others supporting her, there's no way I'm watching. But I am rooting for the French team....
But I hope the Germans (Deutsche Fußballnationalmannschaft der Frauen) win the cup.
It is only the most popular sport in the world.
Same here. Between the bad sportsmanship, the America hating, and the foul language trashing our country, they can go take a flying leap - and I am speaking about the US womens team.
They need to stop playing tournaments at home! (WC ‘50/WC’14/’19 Copa); doesn’t seem to help them.
They will play Arg in the semis if Arg wins tonight.
I would respectfully disagree......girls fast pitch Softball and volleyball are huge now here in Michigan.
There's an indoor volleyball facility where I play in a senior league over the winter.
They host tournaments there that bring in over 300 teams and have to use another facility to accommodate all the teams.
A few years ago there was a gal from a local high school who was the number one female player two years in a row here and she went on to play for the Florida Gators and made All American. She's now playing professionally in Europe....
They lost to the US u17 team back in 2012 8-2.
Again, watch and enjoy what you want, but let’s not fool ourselves about the level of play on the field. I enjoy watching my daughters U14 team play, but I have no illusions about the level of play on the field.
Enjoy the rest of the tournament.
Thank you safeasthebanks.
I am hoping for USA - Germany Final.
Rooting for the French in this one. Our women do not deserve to represent this country.
The Gators have been so close, but they haven’t been able to get over the hump and win a Volleyball title. They’ve made the tournament every year since 1991.
I’m not really following, but I won’t root for another country against the US like some others here have said. Kinda tacky.
So go USA. Hopefully the heat isn’t too bad over there.
GO FRANCE
Pound the crap out of our ugly dykes.
ESPN was also reporting on Wednesday that a third U.S. player, Alex Morgan, will boycott the White House if there is a visit.
And invite them to the White House.
Having lived my life in Michigan, where would I rather spend my winters in college? Snowy Michigan or sunny Florida.....LOL!
“The game that defines your sour view was a scrimmage in front of parents, friends and coaches of the boys. “
That’s just an excuse. I defy you to show me the High School team that could beat the Chiefs or Patriots, Red Sox or Dodgers, or the Golden State Warriors...even in a “scrimmage”.
Coming up next on FOX. The Battle Of The Ages.
France has the home crowd advantage today.
