Midway (1976) was the first "grown-up" movie my dad and I saw.

I remember when our guys were sinking the Akagi and other Jap carriers, the audience cheered.

One of the best researched and most enjoyable reads about the battle of Midway is Walter Lord's Incredible victory.

It is the "go to" book about Midway, written for general audience and historians alike. A good read, and considered a classic. Used copies can be had for under $5.

I remember that too. I saw the movie at a theatre in downtown Minneapolis. When the bombs started hitting the flight decks of the Japanese carriers, the whole audience was cheering.
