Used to help mom can when we lived where things grew, always had lots of veggies and fruit that we grew or bought.
Since moving to NM and AZ not much canning was done.
But we never put up what you are used to doing.
My children grew up on organically grown fruits and veggies LONG before WholePaycheck became an actual tready thing. It may seem like alot of work, but if you have the right equipment and enough hands it’s not that much time. It’s still a lot of work though don’t get me wrong, but you get the whole winter to rest lol...
My daughter took me to the eye doctor today. How does someone go legally blind in one eye and have no clue? I’ve had some vision issue a year, but the last few months have been really bad. Do any of you close one eye to see and then the other? I never did I thought dirty glasses, need new glasses, etc. I got a referral to an eye surgeon to see if he can recover the vision or at least stop it from getting worse. My mom is having cancer surgery again on the 1st, so it may take a few more days for me to get it, but he said it’s agressive so move fast. Ain’t life grand...
Family of canners here. Now freeze a lot. Makes more sense for one or two!
My sis had five/six with adopted grandchild. She cans about as much as you do. Her husband is a food scientist and KNOWS whats in purchased food. Now that the last is in college she still cans and supplies her adult children “Christmas Food”.
Not uncommon for her husband to pick up a couple of bushes of beans or tomatoes or peaches and the two of them work into the night putting em up !
She stopped by on way to daughters. She said they buy jars in bulk from local hardware. They give them a really good price!
My mom tried canning one year and had me help her, that was the only time. I do dehydrate and freeze some things.
