We girls would not let mom color her hair so I, in fairness, never have either.

I’m a very dark brunette. Looks black except in the sun you can see shades of red. I’ve bleached my hair red and blonde several times in my life, and sometimes let it grow to my natural color. Now I have some gray, and occasionally put a dark red just to cover it up.

I told my hair dresser I'm probably the only blonde/grey woman wanting a full head of high lighted greys. Its worked well not having roots showing.
