One of my favorite JM stories. Parents were lined up to pick up kids at a church function. Several pre-teens were in the front yard waiting to be dismissed. Up pulls a convertible and one young lady breaks from crowd yelling “Daaaad!” The others follow all yelling Dad. Parents of the group watch as he loads them all up (after getting their parents approval) takes them for a ride in his new car. Apparently he also treated to DQ cause they came back with treats. (Sure would have liked to see the wait staff when they realized who was paying the bill). To these kids he wasn’t super star. He was one of their friends dad and from the way he acted around them and they around him — loved. (Knowing the size of families his x and he were from they were probably all cousins.)
