It is simply surrealistic, while highly revealing, that no U.S. President before Trump exercised the power which we have to rebalance world trade, especially with China.
Incidentally, our trade deficits took off in the late '70s with the advent of OPEC, but the worst of the problems were started by the Bush41/Clinton axis in WTO and NAFTA.

It is said that hindsight is much better than foresight - or than near-sight. Now we see more clearly that we have been betrayed by an on-going cabal, both Dem and Repub, for many long years. During the W.J. Clintooon Administration we complained about a $45 bil trade deficit annually with China, kept waving warning flags. NOW it is about a $450 bil deficit annually - almost 10 X more than 20 years ago!
And what do we hear from the DS cabal in both parties: We are ruining our friendly relations with our allies... HUMBUG! Our allies were prepared to plunder our productivity while they wallowed in socialism, Marxism, despotism, whateverism - AT OUR EXPENSE! ...while we decline.
It has to stop. We can afford some generosity, some leeway, but we cannot give away the store.
