RE - Is he allowed to carry his religiously required kirpan dagger?

I also noticed that yahoo did not mention their knife(kirpan) one of their five required articles of faith. I can only guess that was intentional by yahoo. shave and haircuut would be a better idea. If he wants it bad enough, let him join the indian army.

The only places in the Army you can't have a blade is Basic/AIT, and maybe some SCIFs. Otherwise, knives are perfectly fine. One guy in my old unit had a pretty nice Bowie knife. Thing was maybe an inch or two smaller than a machete.

Fwiw, I once was an “advisor to” an ARNG Light Infantry unit & EVERY member of the battalion carried a sheath knife & some of the members carried 2 or more knives all the time.
(To “fit in” with the unit members, I broke out my old dagger, made OCONUS from a re-handled & sharpened to a razor edge US carbine bayonet blade, and wore it on my belt.)

Some of the SM were carrying custom-made/expensive Bowies & some knives as commonplace as the USMC-issue Kabar.
