I keep getting a pop up telling me “Windows Users Urged to Download this Now.” Is this something I’m supposed to do or is it Malware?

I keep getting microsoft telling me there's a problem with my account and to please set up a new account. I ignore it. But remember your talking to the one who selected windows (sites) disappear. I also get pop ups to try microsoft edge. I also ignore them too....I'm told that eventually things update on its own. Manually isn't an option any more after a while.
