The difficulty we as humans have is imagining something not yet even theorized in our world.

As Lord Kelvin said in 1895, "heavier than air flying machines are impossible” (Wright Bros proved him wrong just eight years later).

Or the head of the patent office a hundred years ago who resigned because everything that can be invented, had been invented.

My favorite, though, is French philosopher Auguste Comte, who famously declared in around 1865, that man could never know the chemical makeup of the stars.
