I back in because it’s safer to pull out instead of backing out. Many companies require their fleet vehicles to be backed in for the same reason.

Exactly. It’s taught in industrial safety courses, for instance. And I remember reading some accounts of contractors in Iraq and Afghanistan. If a driver didn’t automatically “combat park” (back in), that was an instant fire.
