IIRC, Brian Cates is not big on Q but then he pointed this out:
"Trump knew when he was RUNNING that the Deep State was spying on him & his campaign. HE KNEW. He came into office *KNOWING* this. He had *counter-measures* ready even during the campaign LONG before he took the oath of office & entered the White House. He had a strategy. He sat around and war-gamed it out with some very very serious people."
Maybe he's starting to come around because this would explain what we understand about the Q team and how they are involved.

I think that Cates isn’t “against” Q, he just sort of ignores and does his own research. He may read Q more than he lets on. I think he wants to reach a general public that are not necessarily Q followers. Which is fine.
