I’m with you. Once you have kids, GROW UP, or don’t bother having them. Similar, although not quite as much, if you have a wife, or living parents, or siblings, depending on how close. My parents told me to NEVER rent a car in a country like the UK, where they drive on the wrong side of the road - two of their close friends are dead due to that. I can wait - and find other options in the mean time.
I rented a car in the UK, and my mom was one of the passengers. We lived.
Rented a bicycle when I was over there - not a car. The only problem was ending up on the wrong side from roundabouts and I think it was left turns.
