I think the energy department is involved because of George Papa. Here's a Tweet of his

I was because I was promoting US energy companies and set up a meeting between Trump-Egypt’s President, nothing nefarious there. Kerry wants the Iranians to stonewall America. Big difference.
I read his book (a super read btw) George was trying to get US to build gas terminals in Cyprus rather than Turkey to get gas to Egypt. Also he represented Israeli energy interests between US.
