Yes it certainly was
I think back to the couple of evening I picked up the son and his mother walking along a busy US highway to go grocery shop for the restaurant . They had no car. She spoke no English. She waited till her seven year old son could accompany her to translate and make change at store.
I offered to take her and any groceries she wanted to buy back home. We became instant friends. Once his teachers found out the situation (she knew some Spanish & she made sure mama had a ride to grocery )
Life was so simple and open then. A lot more loving and trusting.
But today a son of their’s may be looking to advnvce in MS-13.
A lot of that is our fault.
Just gotta say that.
