MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Hundreds of demonstrators marched to the Alabama Capitol on Sunday to protest the state's newly approved abortion ban, chanting "my body, my choice!" and "vote them out!"
The demonstration came days after Gov. Kay Ivey signed the most stringent abortion law in the nation— making performing an abortion a felony in nearly all cases unless necessary for the mother's health. The law provides no exception for rape and incest.
"Banning abortion does not stop abortion. It stops safe abortion," said Staci Fox, CEO and president of Planned Parenthood Southeast, addressing the cheering crowd outside the Alabama Capitol.
Alabama is part of a wave of conservative states seeking to mount new legal challenges to Roe v. Wade, the 1973 landmark Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion nationwide. Governors in Kentucky, Mississippi, Ohio and Georgia have approved bans on abortion once a fetal heartbeat is detected, which can happen as early as the sixth week of pregnancy.
None of the laws has actually taken effect, and all are expected to be blocked by the courts as the legal challenges play out with an ultimate eye on the Supreme Court.
Marchers on Sunday said the measures have energized supporters of legalized abortion, and they say they are digging in for a legal and political fight. Along the route they took, the protesters passed by scattered counterdemonstrators raising signs against abortion.
Two speakers at the rally on the Capitol steps shared their stories of having an abortion, including a woman who came out of the crowd to describe the abortion she had after being raped at a party at age 18.

I personally believe it is NONE of my business whether you have an abortion or not.

HOWEVER, I do believe it is completely wrong to take ‘my’ tax dollars to pay for YOUR abortion, I also believe it is wrong to take ‘my’ tax dollars and pay for YOUR kids lunch, and if one is to partake in all these ‘goodies’ as a single parent they should at least be required to name the father and the state pursue the father.

They can chose to not go to Alabama for an abortion. Maybe even a few of those protesters actually live in Alabama, and weren’t bused in.....There isn’t an impassible wall around the state to prevent them from going somewhere else (like most of the rest of the whole dang world) for an abortion.
I can’t help wishing that all these people who love the concept of abortion, that their mothers had felt the same way.
It wasn’t our choice when it came to Obamacare.

Morgana, I’m not fully clear what you meant. I do realize some choose abortion and then regret it and do have a real change of heart in the matter. I believe God can use any situation for His glory to be shown.
My first comment was more so meant for people who repeatedly advocate for the right to murder the unborn.
I do realize God allows us to make choices inline with Him or out of line with Him and His word. I’m not against free will. I’m just against the evil spirit that seems to lull women or forcefully in some of the more outspoken (out of control) advocates of abortion and their desire to have taxpayer funded abortion and promote it as a good thing.
They also have other choices. Move state, don’t get pregnant, be financially stable, get a job, dont you lie on your back for JoJo drug seller, take responsibility for your actions. Life is full of wonderful choices that dont include killing a child.
I figure that many of these women have already had abortions and as long as it is legal it keeps their dirty conscious clean to the fact they in reality murdered their child and not just got rid of a few cells.

1 out of 10 couples cannot have children and cannot afford to adopt with today’s high adoption prices, which as we all know amounts to babysitting with all the real rights going to the biological parents when they decide to step up to the plate.
I don’t even understand why childless couples have to pay taxes on schools for somebody else’s kids to attend.
Now some people will bemoan that we can’t separate taxes like that. Well, this is the computer age folks, we can separate and catalog anything that we can think of to slice and dice. And the govt is not able or maybe not willing to do that because it’s money...it’s big money and the vetfed is still thinking ‘buckets of money’ rather than slicing and dicing.
They are for abortion but if they were the baby in the uterus about to be aborted then they would howl in favor of their life. Selfish hypocrites all.,
