“I had thought that the best coffee would be a Jamaica Blue Mountain ... why Panama?”
That and Hawaii Kona are the best I have had. I did have a great coffee in Argentina. It was served in an espresso cup. I laughed and asked for a regular sized cup. Took a day and a half to come down from the rush.

Good luck finding the Kona. Most places carry a Kona blend. If the price is anywhere near the Comlumbian or Papua New Guinea, you know there isn't a lot of Kona. At the Fresh Market I asked how much Kona was in the Kona "blend". Two clerks and one relayed message frpm the manager later, I was told it was a proproetary trade secret. Translation: "Not Much".

Jamaica Blue Mountain is good coffee, but I'm no coffee snob. I've drank far too many cups of 3am swill in too many places that I shouldn't have been, to get hoity-toity about coffee beans. $1200/pound brings to mind the old saw about a fool and his money.
I had much the same experience as you in a Turkish restaurant. Had a "cup" of coffee, no bigger than a shot glass. I swear that I could hear colors for the rest of the day. Jeez, that was some strong stuff.
