What sweet memories.

Yes they are. Such a different world than the one we live in now. I have the tongs mounted on a wall in my shop along with many other old things passed down to me from my dad who got them when my grandfather died. Those things mean a lot to me and start interesting conversations when ever a younger person drops by.

Sounds like your shop is a walk back in time.

I used to take my dad to estate sales with me....because he knew what all of the old tools/utensils, etc were (originally) used for.

My mom would talk about farmers bring in their left over produce into town during the depression. And people trading to help others out. My grand parents lived up on a hill in the rural Kentucky and during the 1937 flood they kept caskets in their basement. It was the only place to put them until the waters went down.

Put a piece of broomstick between the tongs and hang paper towel on it. Have two Used that way.
