What wads my shorts are the pedants who leap to correct anyone calling the US a democracy. Republic is downstream from democracy. It is a form of it.

Arguing a republic is sui generis is like correcting someone who calls his dog a mammal.

Odd. I always viewed it the other way around.

A Constitutional Democratic Republic can degenerate into a Democracy,
which can degenerate into Socialism, which can degenerate into
communism and worse.

It’s a downhill trajectory.
