With respect to the "other poster", it wasn't logic that prevailed, but Jim Robinson ("may donations be upon him"). The only value to continuing the conversation with Other Poster was in getting him back under control.

Perhaps a good way to counter lies from trolls is to address someone else, or leave To box empty, and counter lies and propaganda that way. Without directing enaging them, but lurkers/readers who may be influenced by them, will read the factual comments.
