electric powerplants are 50% efficient?? I have A power plant operator/ thermodynamics minor and nuclear power plant comstuction operation minor education and experience. The best power plants ones run in the high 30’s ..Sooo.. did you go to school for power plant cycle education? Ever heard of a rankine cycle? A mollier diagram? Whats the difference between and impulse and a reaction turbine? which is more efficient and whats the best use for each?.. Wiki is not always a good source for info..

“Siemens unveiled its new HL-class, the next generation of larger air-cooled gas turbines that represents a push for higher power plant efficiency “ a must for operators nowadays “ with the gas turbines realizing more than 63% efficiency in combined-cycle operation, and moving towards the 65% mark.”

Your “high 30’s” probably does represent the typical reality of the installed base, however.
