The problem has always been that if you were heard talking about it, you’d be written off as some sort of loon and your career might well be over.

Not suggesting UFOs are real (or at least not suggesting they are extraterrestrial) but if almost everything you read about them is based in fact, this isn’t really a false statement, but it’s extremely misleading, because almost all military personnel who witness unexplained aerial phenomenon are debriefed and then informed to obey confidentiality, usually with very heavy intimidation and emphasis. This also goes to a lesser degree for the private sector, especially in the earlier days of commercial pilots, and MIBs are likely not fictional at all. It makes perfect sense, for national security reasons, to investigate any possible advanced technologies.
So again, I’m not suggesting there are little green men, but let’s not pretend that this is all some new set of policies.
