I have a feeling that we will eventually find that the Norse had gone further inland than we think. The St Lawrence would have been a good place to start. How far did they go? Who knows? Did they inter marry with the natives as they went westward?

Vikings are legendary for their strong constitutions and spirit of exploration and discovery, which makes me wonder...

IIRC, "Yankee" is Dutch slang for English settlers.

It means "John Cheese"

I’ve read that Yankee was originally Jankee. Jan was Dutch for John. Kaas Dutch for cheese. The British in the colonies used as a derogatory term for the Dutch. Essentially calling them Johnny Cheese.
