You may start seeing the phrase opinion laundering more often in news and commentaries. Journalists have used the phrase to identify something that has been taking place in the public relations industry. Politicians and journalists try to get legitimate third parties to validate their policy positions. That way they dont have to look like they are taking a position. Instead, they use someone else to express their opinion

ABC Radio News has been doing it for years. One instance stands out in my mind of a time some years ago when the reporter was telling about a workplace shooting, and then finished the story by saying “Surveys show that 90 percent of Americans are in favor of gun control. This ABC News.” Then right into a commercial break.
