Actually, I preferred Robert Taft, but Ike won the nomination in 1952, and Taft died the next year.
I did quirky political things from a very early age, like memorize all 100 Senators, their political party, and the number of electoral votes in each state.
I used to listen to ultra-conservative radio programs every day before school, then get into political shouting matches with my Leftist classmates.
I was a passionate Cold Warrior and was more Libertarian than Conservative.
Obviously, Libertarians have no chance in major elections, so I have always voted Republican.
Sounds familiar... I, too, was born before Truman was elected and went door to door for Ike in 1956....
