Advisor Ed Butowsky sues media over Seth Rich story coverage
Dallas advisor Ed Butowsky has filed a lawsuit against over a dozen lawyers and journalists for defamation in an effort to strike back after a political controversy allegedly hurt his RIA business.
Among the defendants are Turner Broadcasting System, the New York Times Company and Vox Media, as well as CNN reporters Anderson Cooper, Tom Kludt and Oliver Darcy. Butowsky claims that reporters from those companies defamed him as they covered the fallout of a series of lawsuits which alleged that Butowsky conspired with Fox News and the Trump administration to concoct a since-retracted story that the 2016 murder of Seth Rich, a Democratic National Committee staffer, may have been connected to the leak of several party officials’ emails to WikiLeaks.
A pair of lawsuits filed against Butowsky by Rich’s parents and Rod Wheeler, a private investigator who probed Rich’s death at Butowsky’s behest, were dismissed in the summer of 2018. Butowsky has included Rich’s parents’ lawyers as defendants in the suit.
