The Court is always careful to make sure the Defendant is getting a fair shake. Not because the Court has a crush on the bad guy, but because the Court wants to make sure that no squirrely behaviour on the Court's part leads to an appeal on the Defendant's part.
You may be confused because sometimes, all the details of the deal are not disclosed publicly. Hmm?
I was only wondering if it would be different in different jurisdictions since I read not too long ago (where??? no idea...) that plea bargainers do not know what kind of deal they will be getting. So apparently whoever wrote that was wrong.
