When I went to Haiti, I had intended to bring candy to hand out to children when we went out in the countryside. The missionary that lived in country told me "Don't even think about it."

He said that adult men will shove the children out of the way, and that crowds would gather, and no matter how much candy you have, it won't be enough. When you run out of candy, they'll get mad and kill you.

You go anyplace and start giving things of value out for free, and it can get ugly.
