He's had a few ticks over the winter, which is unusual, but with the good weather, he's getting three or four a day. I've been reading up on remedies to this problem ...

I use Bug Off garlic. I live in rural Texas and my dog has never had a flea or tick in 3 years. I use the powder but they also sell a tablet. I sprinkle the powder on her morning food. She is on no other flea/tick treatment. I buy the product for horses because it is cheaper. Exact same powder as for dogs (per the manufacturer) just a bigger container. They will even send you a dog scoop if you ask.

I bought a tick removal tool at the vet - I think it’s called Tick Off - looks like a plastic tablespoon with a notch in it, and works very well popping them out whole.

We use Bravecto. Dog chews it up and it lasts 3 months. Pricey but needed in Tennessee!

You can buy cheap insecticides that can distributed where the dog roams. The secret of course is to restrict the area the dog roams.

A chicken, duck, or goose will rid a yard of insect in short order. They are voracious. Best bet is to borrow a duck.

My dog uses Trifexis. It kills fleas and worms. It’s expensive, about $25 a month, and it’s not rated for ticks, but every tick I’ve found on my dog has been dead.

Best way to treat the yard is with beneficial nematodes.

They live in the soil, consuming flea larva and other assorted grubs.
