This way Microsoft can blame you for installing them!

Now if they would let me permanently delete and kill Cortana and quit re-installing it when I let a new update run.

I have 10 and life still goes on. The hysteria over 10 is uber emotional...it makes me laugh.

I know somebody who always gets the forced updates.

Makes me laugh that it’s not me.

My engineer pals have several XP boxes in use. I have been told that they don’t run anything, just glorified monitoring units.

I know a businessman who had an important meeting one day. He got to the office early that morning, but found his computer system was running slow, key software programs would not work (so he could get to his files) and the whole navigation system was different.

“Welcome to Windows 10” it said on the screen.

He did not have a good meeting.

Yeah, it constantly happened to this guy I knew. Last I knew he was still dealing with it. I liked 7, still have one box.

There is a specific version of Windows 10 that is not automatically updated, made especially for mission critical or secure environments.

Windows 10 Long-term Servicing Channel:

Specialized systems—such as PCs that control medical equipment, point-of-sale systems, and ATMs—often require a longer servicing option because of their purpose. These devices typically perform a single important task and don’t need feature updates as frequently as other devices in the organization. It’s more important that these devices be kept as stable and secure as possible than up to date with user interface changes. The LTSC servicing model prevents Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB devices from receiving the usual feature updates and provides only quality updates to ensure that device security stays up to date. With this in mind, quality updates are still immediately available to Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB clients, but customers can choose to defer them by using one of the servicing tools mentioned in the section Servicing tools.

What next, letting us opt out of Cortana tracking us 24/7?

The headline is misleading: when the last major update reaches end-of-life, MS will still force an update.

They're just dragging it out to a maximum of 18 months.

We could port our app to Linux in that time.

“I wonder if anyone uses Windows for mission-critical applications such as military or space-flight.”

Yes, I use Windows 3.1 for military and space flight.

I have 10 and life still goes on.

Me too. It just costs me a few thousand dollars a month in lost time and productivity.

Your “LOL” suggests you are making fun of updates.

Let me tell you this, MS updates do keep out the unwanted hacker kids living in Mom’s basement. And they do make it safer for NSA to backdoor your information so you won’t detect it and have to worry.

You just don’t understand this extra security is your ticket to freedom. It’s like gun free zones keeping out criminals.

NO update should ever be beyond the control of the purchaser of the hardware/OS/software. E-V-E-R

I agree. Unfortunately, Microsoft does not agree.

You do not own your OS. Microsoft provides W10 as a "service". MS sometimes gives me a pop-up message reminding me of this.

Anyone who stayed with windows after the 8.0 debacle knew they were dealing with crap...

Like the scene in airplane..

“They bought their tickets. They knew what they were getting into. I say let em crash.”

Ha, walked into a grocery store with one of those last night. It's not even the standard sign you see on most businesses here that do it (only a few do, and I generally avoid them).

I was think, oh yeah, that will keep the terrorists out. When they read that sign...
