"Empire” actor Jussie Smollett has appeared in Cook County court Tuesday morning for a hearing on whether cameras will be allowed in the courtroom on the criminal charges he faces.
Media organizations want video and still cameras to record court proceedings on the charges alleging Smollett staged a phony attack on himself and told police he was the victim of a hate crime.
Last week a grand jury indicted Smollett on 16 counts of disorderly conduct. The 36-year-old actor, who is free on $100,000 bond, has vehemently denied lying to police or faking the attack.
Smollett is due back at the Leighton Criminal Court Building again Thursday when he is scheduled to be arraigned on the 16 counts and have a judge assigned to preside over his case. That judge could potentially reverse or modify any decision made Tuesday about cameras in the courtroom.

I vote for Jussie. Nathan is just a character who just happened to be around. Ford had a conspiracy team behind her. She didn’t hatch the plan. Jussie is the innovator here. It was probably all his plan.

What got the Feds involved initially is they were investigating what they thought was a legitimate hate
crime..... hate mail Jussie had written and sent to himself at the studio.
When the hate mail failed to get him the attention Smollett thought it deserved, he staged the hoax.
Smollett knew the very words “racist” and “homophobic” have been sanctified and now possess a political power, true or not.....
to be lobbed at perceived enemy lines like artillery shells. In his small mind, Smollett is heroic. The "oppressor" is the one to blame.
He is sitting pretty.......awaiting The Big Payoff.
Smollett is so self-absorbed that his lawyers are probably arguing to allow cameras.
