A stroke at that age could either be a result of long term substance use, or it may simply be a matter of heredity.
Some family lines are prone to certain ailments at particular times of their lives.

I recall a 13 year old neighbor, a star player on the Junior High Basketball team, who had a heart attack. Everyone except the family was shocked.
Heart conditions were common on his father’s side.
Luckily, he recovered, as far as I know.
For other families, it may be some form of cancer that is a common trait.

Could have had undiagnosed AFib. I had it for six years before it was found. If you’re asymptomatic you’ll never know until something unrelated happens. A stroke would be the worst of those somethings. In my case it was a physical for health insurance. A better way to find out.

Could also be due to rupture of an intracranial aneurysm
