It’s sad that he cut family ties over politics. My parents were big time lefties, even thought communism was great. They acted like I had joined a Satanic cult when they found out I had registered to vote so I could vote for Ronald Reagan. For years, my dad especially, would start showing me fake proof that Reagan and Republicans were evil and going to kill all the poor people, and he would get so angry when I had a good response that I finally learned to just say, “that’s interesting”, and just change the subject.
