From your link:

“There was simply no way Sessions could stay in charge of the DOJ investigations of people who had targeted him as a Russian agent and tried to “prove” he colluded with Russians. His recusal was absolutely necessary and people who dispute this are simply wrong.”

Brian Cates has quite the imagination.

What he writes makes sense ...

in his own mind.

Sessions did not need to take the job. When he was put through the wringer for meeting this or that Russan, he should have stepped out and down because his President needed to have an AG that would be 100% engaged.

What people forget is the Republican party coming into 2017 was still populated with many NeverTrumpers who would not have hesitated to watch Trump get put on an impeachment wagon.

Jeff was loyal to his constituents who massively supported Donald Trump, many traveling hundreds of miles to attend outdoor rallies in Mobile while braving thunder and wind storms. Jeff was there with them.

But Jeff caught the ire of NeverTrumper Senate Republicans who would waste no time in throwing Jeff under the bus.

So he was between a rock and a hard place. His recusal was for no other reason than to escape becoming embroiled in the fight between the swamp and the President.

While recused. Jeff could not discuss, mention, or in any way associate with anything that smelled of Russian collusion. This was not good for the President.
