California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced on Tuesday he is pulling the plug on the state's massive high-speed rail project from Los Angeles to San Francisco that was more than a decade behind schedule and billions in the red.
"Let's be real," Newsom said in his first State of the State address. "The current project, as planned, would cost too much and respectfully take too long. There's been too little oversight and not enough transparency."
CALIFORNIA BULLET TRAIN PROJECT ON TRACK TO BLOW THROUGH BILLIONS OF MORE DOLLARS
Newsom added that while California has "the capacity to complete a high-speed rail link between Merced and Bakersfield," "there simply isn't a path to get from Sacramento to San Diego, let alone from San Francisco to L.A."
The embattled $77-billion bullet train has been an embarrassment for the Golden State and has been plagued by problems almost from the start.

it was a dream that started out at $10B and flowery promises to taxpayers: if they would just dig a little deeper, take a little less home in their paychecks, there would be daisies and unicorns.
In the meantime, thousands of companies profited while water was taken to pressure and harass people off their land.
Give the land back. And compensate the farmers. It’s the least the state can do. Oh, and let the audits commence.
what took so long?
I’d gather 1/2 of the FReepers here...don’t know who Milton Friedman is...........
Bump
Green new deal cost’s too much green I guess.
Sorry they’re all the same. Hard to tell them apart.
Ha! No...but for the $100+K they pay for that job I might sell-out!! ;-) I just have more info on the HSR debacle than most people...was part of the local Tea Party group in Fresno that opposed the project at the start years ago...I still remember stuffing envelopes to mail out to warn property owners about eminent domain on their properties. Required a lot of study of HSR plans. The $3 billion from the Feds came with strings/build-out requirements that if not met required the return of the money. So Gavin needs to finish the 1st segment or face legal issues with the Feds. Hundreds of acres of ag land lost and billions wasted...tragic but typical for CA lefties.
Well dummies. Just quit buying so many balloons!
