When all other answers are proven wrong, what is left—no matter how absurd is the truth.
That is a missile. The rotation of the cylinder as it rose causes the spiral.
That is going out over the ocean/channel. Someone did a test. Or, someone took a poke at something in the Atlantic.

I believed that explanation until I saw the aftermath of a rocket launch in FL. Looked just like this.
But, i am no expert. I am open to being wrong.

Perfectly explainable with ease. This was a rocket launch. Due to differential velocities of wind becoming greater with altitude the rocket exhaust was twisted into a spiral shape from the point of observation. In reality it was not a spiral.
I do not even understand why this is considered news? Actually I do. Most reporters are scientific idiots.
