Thanks for posting these devekopments .There’s a Canadian by the name of Patterson who in 2007 discovered by analyzing the sediments around coastal regions in the arctic ocean found that active sun spot solar cycles affected fish production. That drilling is only down about a mile and a half down and not into the base when the last ice cycle began. Which might provide a bio clue of the conditions which existed prior to the cycle change record . Also the steaming method being used might prevent getting biological samples of a given period as the antarctic icing developed.

Okay, I’ll bite. What specifically is not believable, and specifically why is it not believable?

What little voice told you to disbelieve it - what’s your expertise that says it isn’t believable?

Ever try drilling into just 3 inches of ice? Not easy. And these guys are claiming 1.5 miles? Oh, please.
(just trolling a bit for fun - I have no clue why he made that claim)

I wonder if ol' Hank Johnson is concerned this will cause Anarctica to deflate and sink into briny soup?

They do not use a mechanical drill. They use a heated probe, which melts down through the ice. They used this method to locate a flight of brand new P 38 Lightnings left in Greenland in WW2.

I also thought about the suction head pressure, unless they are using glycol in drilling mud.
Then there is the problem of pretty much ruining any core samples.
But then I’m not a geophysical or Drilling Engineer and slept in a Hilton last night...
