You must be an empty-headed fool who will say whatever you’re told to say for money....
Large glasses.
Loud clothing...
That’s it. You have to have a ready opinion on every subject at the drop of a hat without requiring knowledge of any actual information.
What it takes is:
1. Good looks, ability to hold audience’s attention. Possibly this is salesmanship. Salesmanship is always in order. I knew a person that considered everything he did to be “a sales call”.
2. Willing to work hard and at odd hours and on short notice to get stories and prepare scripts and video for presenting the stories.
3. Choose and present stores that management thinks are good for the station or network. Do things that management likes.
4. For most presenters be willing to work for less pay than they could get with other jobs. It is likely that they could take their public speaking, script writing, videography and editing experience somewhere else and make more money.
The good news for presenters is that when it’s perceived that they personally draw a large audience, their pay goes up and they have more freedom of expression. Maybe not the freedom of expression.
