A crucial non-interference, non-helmet-to-helmet call cost the Saints a spot in the Super Bowl and provided a crushing loss to end the season for a second straight year as the Rams won with a field goal in overtime 26-23.
After the game, Saints head coach Sean Payton said the NFL head of officials admitted they had missed the call, saying that it was not only pass interference, but a helmet to helmet hit. If the call had been made, the Saints could have killed the clock and tried a chip shot field goal...

Looks like the fix is in on the KC vs. NE game, too. Problem is Brady apparently did not get the memo.
The lummox left tackle of the Saints cost them the game,with the Saints having excellent field position in the fourth quarter he gets called for holding,he followed that up with whiffing on a run play.It amazes me that a professional football player does not understand the blocking rules.
I hadn’t watched more than a few seconds of an NFL game since the kneeling started two years ago. The idea of Drew Brees capping his against-the-odds career with a second Super Bowl lured me back in for the last two quarters of this one.
That was the most egregious no-call I think I’ve ever seen. So obviously wrong, and so obviously game-changing that it should have been corrected immediately.
It wasn’t. The NFL is happy with an illegitimate outcome.
Because of the kneeling, I haven’t been watching, but I was still curious enough to check the scores on Sunday night. This solves that problem. I don’t think I’ll have much interest in their games ever again.

Yup. Getting beat is one thing, and certainly is a disappointment. But losing because of bad officiating is an obscenity.
I have really gotten into watching professional rugby on NBC Sports. There are many things I like about the game. There is one referee, two line referees and a TV referee (TMO). If there is even a hint of ‘foul play’ the referee on the field can ask the TMO to review the play or the TMO can call the field referee’s attention to it. Because of the way rugby is played, this can be a few minutes after the foul occurred. If the TMO and field referee agree the foul is called. This all usually takes much less time than the NFL’s system.
Rugby is a fun, if confusing, sport to watch.

Is this an NFL thing? I used to watch and know well how it feels to get screwed by refs but I’m kinda glad I no longer care about the NFL. The Kneelers did me a favor and reduced tension in my life.

Rugby is a fun, if confusing, sport to watch.
The ref is miked up so you can hear him talking to the players. He’ll warn players if they are getting too close to an infraction and thank them for doing what he tells them.
I disagree with that. These were two excellent teams fairly evenly matched.
Saying that if it comes down to a single play or call negates the skills of both sides.

A few wrong calls on crucial plays at crucial times will definitely affect the outcome of a game. Not only will it change momentum, but the players inheritly know that the game is being directed to a predetermined outcome. It’s not a guarantee, but most times it does work. Professional sports has had a long history of picking favorites for various reasons. From oddsmakers influence, to what cities the league overlords want the playoffs to be in, and various other reasons.

I didn’t particularly favor either team, but that play was right out in the open and appeared to involve TWO fouls: pass interference and helmet-to-helmet contact.
