From an article about cctv:
“The first public service CCTV systems in the United States were installed in 1968, in Olean, NY, to monitor crime activity on the local Main Street. This set the precedent for many future installations on other city streets throughout the country.
Reel-to-reel filming allowed CCTV footage to be recorded, but the tapes were hard to change and resulted in a very flawed system. VCR technology was released in the 1970s, improving recorded security footage”
Earlier article I read said there was a
cctv camera which showed this location.
Thx for that. I’ll check it out.
“first public service CCTV systems in the United States were installed in 1968, in Olean, NY”
Interesting. That’s “home” for me. Didn’t know that piece of trivia.
Lets say there was a video camera a mile up river from where these men say they were abducted.
The video recorded would be of very low quality in comparison to today. (240 X 333 lines of resoulution)
The black and white cameras also had a high light requirement. Anything poorly lit was not going to show up.
Given that rivers are not necessarily straight and river fronts are often built up the cameras of the day were typically made for focusing on near objects especially in low light, I would be surprized if they caught any thing happening a mile away at night.
Anything happening a mile away caught by camera in the early 1970s at night would have to have been of biblical proportions.
