Netflix is raising its U.S. prices by 13 percent to 18 percent, its biggest increase since the company launched its streaming service 12 years ago.
Its most popular plan will see the largest hike, to $13 per month from $11. That option offers high-definition streaming on up to two different internet-connected devices simultaneously. Even at the higher price, that plan is still a few dollars cheaper than HBO, whose streaming service charges $15 per month.
The extra cash will help to pay for Netflix's huge investment in original shows and films and finance the heavy debt it has assumed to ward off rivals such as Amazon, Disney and AT&T.

Aonher leftist org I decided to drop like Facebook....don’t need these America hating trash in my life!!!
Aonher = another
probably the payoff to hussein for pushing through net neutrality during his tenure.
We have the 2 DVD service. We’ve started watching The Middle, and I’m studying story telling so we’ve been renting thrillers.
Once they signed the Odungos, I called them and told them to cancel my subscription. The guy on the phone remarked that he’d had a LOT of similar calls that day. Their content was pretty crummy, too. If you liked 10-15 year old movies and a bunch of old TV shows, then Netflix is totally for you. I get pretty much the same thing from Amazon Prime, but at least I get a lot of other benefits as well. Takes the sting, to some extent, from the basically crummy fare. There are some very decent old programs I never saw, with ratings above 8.5/10, that I’ve been enjoying. Once in a while, there’s a movie worth watching as well.
Thanks. I saw one very hard-to-find movie on Hulu free...would like to see a few more.
More competition for content... NETFLIX isn’t the only game in town anymore... Which is why they are developing their own content.
They have been acquiring a lot of foreign films and dubbing them in English. Too many German films/ series.
Ill stick with Amazon since I am really fed up with the garbage on Netflix.
Wooops...saw it on Vimeo and it’s still there ...free.
“Exile in Buyukada,” with Vanessa Redgrave —snarrative story of Trotsky’s expulsion from the Stalinist Russian revolution. I was interested in White. Russians who managed to get out of Russia before they were assassinated, many fled to Turkey on ships provided by other countries, including the US Navy. Fascinating people. When I first moved to SanFrancisco, there were still little old ladies sitting very erect in Russian tea shops and restaurants in my neighborhood, elegant, proud. We bought a lot of yummy stuff at a Russian bakery. etcetcetc..
Not everyone’s cup of tea, but just in case you or other Freepers are interested.
Netflix is certainly compelling as long as it is still relatively inexpensive. But you are correct - I always wonder how they make money with their broad offering.
After finding nothing on Dish TV over the weekend I used my Roku box and watched a nights worth of Great movies. It was great.
Good value for the money especially when there is crap on the other providers.
EXCELLENT NEWS. May it drive away MILLIONS of the idiots STILL FINANCING this enemy outpost as they spend their way into the dustbin of history!
We were disgusted when Netflix began airing that series ostensibly for KIDS featuring masturbation, multi-gender nonsense and the whole liberal litany of culture-destroying idiocy. We bailed then but went back briefly when it appeared that they had toned it down after OTHER subscribers complained or bailed.
Then came the brilliant move by them to put Susan “Liar of Benghazi” Rice on their board! That was the last straw. We’re never going back!
If OTHER citizens don’t care that they are pouring millions into an outfit that redirects millions of THEIR fees into every left-wing cause out there, they have only themselves to blame as this country heads further into the yawning socialist sewer waiting at the end of the America the Founders TRIED to leave us.
If you don’t fully grasp how the power structure players - and most
especially the LEFT - take care of one another, this BOD thing with Rice
will be a well-paid SINECURE (that’s a position with great benefits/pay
but NO real responsibility) in which to park Susie as - HOPEFULLY - the
long arm of the law reaches out to her to - again HOPEFULLY - grab her
by her greasy, stringy hair and pull her into a courtroom and - with
luck - a cage at Leavenworth or some equally well appointed correctional
facility! My preference for all of them is Guantanamo!!
Bottom line for me? I’ve grown weary of subsidizing those who demonstrate that they are on the OTHER SIDE!
The often-delayed time for choosing WHICH SIDE WE’RE ON has arrived!
How about you? Is your “entertainment” so important that you’ll pay for it with the futures of your kids and grandkids
I just cancelled my subscription, not because of the price increase, but because of their values (or lack thereof).
That’s what I think. They may have paid the Obama’s to be “producers”, but given his track record of productive work, they probably just flushed their money down the toilet.
I honestly don’t expect anything will come out of that except stuff which was probably in the pipeline already and which they can get him to do a minimum amount of work, enough to slap an “Executive Producer Barack Obama” credit on it.
$13 per month
“still cheaper than a single ticket to a movie theater to attempt to watch an unwatchable movie”
Managed to get the $9 senior matinee discount just today to see Clint in the Mule. Not a bad movie actually, anythink Clint has something to do with is usually the case. But yes had we been just a couple of years younger we would have been paying the 13 bucks.
Yeah, I sued to read Playboy for the articles!
Netflix is awesome for being able to entertain someone with zero attention span and waiting ability. Mom has Alzheimers but I can have her enjoying an old favorite show in seconds if needed.
