It still seems hard to believe that the British Mosquito bomber was made mostly of wood. It was a totally successful design capable of high speeds. (Over 400 MPH).

The Germans tried the same thing but their glue technology was not up to the task.

The Spruce Goose?

The Morgan? A friend had one, was run into while he was stopped; had to find a cabinet maker to complete the repairs.

I have some heavy climbing boots, that use wooden screws, metal transmits the cold. (Galibier Super Guide)

Spruce from Queen Charlotte islands in Canada was used to build the Mosquito. They also used autoclaves to saturate the glue into the wood. Makes for a very strong composite structure that is lighter than fiber glass.
