Walking away from a fight may be considered “more manly” but in reality, it’s different.
He was surrounded by a pack of potentially violent teens.
They don't just step aside and let you pass. You don't just 'walk away' or potentially even more dangerous, turn your back.
That's when they pounce.
He could have left that situation, he escalated it.

Exactly. And a real man/woman knows that. This walking away, or cowering, giving in to these thugs is awful and defeats the purpose.
