You see the blond woman and approximately 4 year old child at the 3 second mark, on the left. If I'm alone, I might take a subdued approach. If my wife and kid are under threat by a pack of teens, I will take action to stop the threat.
In my opinion, anything less than forcefully taking down one of the pack leaders would not have made the pack retreat.
