If it is tied to time zones then whatever a device’s time zone is set at or switched to could come into play no matter where in the world the device was in.

If you have an account on Twitter, you can adjust the time zone that you're in.

If you don't have an account, I believe it defaults to west coast time.

To adjust the time zone on Twitter if you have an account:
* click on your icon or avatar near where it says "Tweet" in the far upper righthand corner of the screen
* a menu will drop down ("Profile," "Lists," "Moments," etc.)
* click on the menu item called "Settings and privacy"
* the fourth setting down is where you can change the time zone
* Click "Save changes" at the bottom.

Thank you for your input. I don’t have an account, the laptop I use is set to EST, I live in EST (NC), and when I go to a link of a tweet it displays timestamps in EST.

I guess we’ll have to verify the time of an event through two or more sources if it’s crucial to know for sure. Sigh

I found these also which seems to indicate the device viewed on could be manipulated to alter the displayed time of a tweet.

Twitter and Timezones

Issues with timezones are a pretty common feature of conspiracy theories. There are the times when Google results are datestamped improperly, and often now claims that Tweets were sent before an event is supposed to have taken place.

The problem with Twitter is that it converts times to what it thinks is your local timezone. It’s imperfect. For many US users especially it confuses timezones, showing Pacific Time instead of Eastern Time. Unfortunately it doesn’t actually display a timezone indicator to make it clear which timezone it’s using.

How to change your time zone settings

Updating your device’s date and time settings on your iPhone or iPad

Did you get an alert letting you know that your device’s time zone is set incorrectly?

The device that you use for Twitter has its own date and time settings.

If you’re having issues with the Twitter app on your iPhone or iPad, you may want to set your device’s date and time to update automatically.
