, Matt Branch, who played for LSU from 2008-11, was with a group of friends duck hunting in Mississippi on Dec. 28 when a Labrador retriever named Tito jumped into the bed of an off-road vehicle and stepped on Branchs shotgun, firing a shot...
The incident cost him his leg, but Branch is expected to make a full recovery, Heckford told the Ledger.

Best friend my ass.
“Button safety, easily stepped on and made unsafe.”
Yes, and then you have to press the bangstick. He should have unloaded before he got in the truck. Firearms can hurt you if you’re not careful or should I say you can hurt yourself.
Shells OUT when not in your hands.
“How do you make a full recovery while missing a leg?”
Exactly what I was thinking the second I read that.
Only in the South.
>>>Former LSU lineman has leg amputated after getting shot by dog<<<
Should be
Former LSU lineman has leg amputated after mishandling a load weapon in an unsafe manner. Sheesh, blame the dog for his own lamebrained idiocy.
“I wonder if any alcohol was involved.”
Deer hunting, we split up to go to our favorite spots.
Returning to the cabin for lunch, two of the guys are ‘sleeping it off’.
At the trailhead, they met another group waiting for sunup.
They were offered some blackberry brandy, for the weather, they said it was nice! Not drinkers, but wanting to be polite...
They had laid the shotguns on the vinyl roof of Dick’s old Olds.
Some deer ran out of the woods, Dick took a shot using the roof as a rest.
Nice divot!
And duct tape did not last very long.
While your suggestion is better, we often have a loaded shotgun in the bed of a pickup but nothing in the chamber. It would be a pretty talented dog to pump the shotgun and then pull the trigger.
Cheneys dog, apparently! Snort!
“Only in the South.”
Nah. Stupid people live everywhere.
Years ago, I was fox hunting with a group of farm boys, here in Minnesota.
As we rolled up to another field to hunt, the guy in the front passenger seat of the Ram Charger we were riding in started to uncase his rifle. It was in his lap, muzzle pointed downward.
As he was uncasing his .22-250, it went off.
Round in the chamber, safety off, bolt closed.
Very loud. Luckily, the only fatality was the right front tire.
Never hunted with those clowns again.
I guess Matt Branch is Matt Limb now.
Not load gun with one in the chamber isn't that smart in that situation, imo. He
may have inadvertently left it loaded.
Yep, if it nicked the femoral artery, it’s “Goodnight Nurse”.
Well, if it had been a cat instead of a dog, it probably would have been premeditated. Maybe the dog just didn’t feel like swimming around in alligator infested water that day.
35 posts and not one “Dog shoots Man” joke?
Not real bright to be leaving a loaded shotgun with a chambered round laying around like that. Don’t blame the dog
“The incident cost him his leg, but Branch is expected to make a full recovery”
really? does that mean that they can regenerate an entire leg back to its original configuration now?
The cat wouldn’t have aimed for the leg.
