Did not stop the stepmonster from feeding the crap to me though. Thank God for a small dog that loved the stuff I sneaked off the plate and under the table to her.
Tongue and lima beans can both be quite delicious if prepared properly.
Can't say the same about liver.
LIMA BEANS???!!! Slowly I turned.... I know what you mean. My late father insisted on us kids eating those God awful things. He would solemnly recount to us that “Lima beans kept me and my family alive during The Depression. Sometimes that’s all we had!’’. Jeez. If that’s all I had to eat I’d be depressed too.
I didn't like peas and my dog didn't either. I did enjoy when my mom made baked potatoes when she also served peas cuz it was the perfect place to hide them nasty suckers.
I must be one of the few people in the world who simply loves to eat a well-prepared meal of liver, fried onions, and mashed potatoes. Calf's liver, coated with a salt-and-peppered flour coating, pan-fried to a crispy exterior, now that's a meal that I could eat at least weekly.
One of the great things of eating in the messhall was the evenings when they would serve liver. Normally, you were only allowed one pass through the serving line. On liver nights, they let me go back and get as many refills as I wanted.
