If they don’t die, their quality of life is significantly diminished by many of the ailments you mention, and others. Kidney and liver impairments are common. Cancers are much higher. Many times a combination of several of these make HIV infection a life sentence; not a death sentence.

Old thread for sure, but as I came across it as part of a collection on the issue of LGBTQ, what you said is certainly affirmed by the data. The linked article also states, "Those aged 50-plus with the comorbidity were more likely to be women (43 percent versus 29 percent), have hep C, and be long-term survivors who had been on antiretroviral medications for more than a decade. The researchers noted that obesity is also a major factor. (snip)... nearly 50 percent of poz men experience mental health issues."
