Only six of the 50 were made since 1994.

I also noticed, having worked my way through the exhaustive list of 253 panelists and their choices, that the women critics named quite a few female-oriented pix over and over, which didn't make it to the top tiers of the mostly-male critics' lists. Among the female favorites were:

Clueless
My Big Fat Greek Wedding
The Royal Tenenbaums
Zoolander
A New Leaf (Elaine May)
The Birdcage (Cage au Folles)
A League of Their Own
The Princess Bride
Mrs. Doubtfire
Mean Girls
Fargo
Bridesmaids
Legally Blonde
The Graduate
Raising Arizona
When Harry Met Sally
Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown
Singin' in the Rain
Tootsie
Four Weddings and a Funeral
His Girl Friday
The Lady Eve
Seven Beauties (Lina Wertmüller)
Notting Hill
Bringing Up Baby
Toy Story
My Sweet Little Village
A Fish Called Wanda
Ninotchka
As Good as It Gets
Irma la Douce
Divorce Italian Style
It Happened One Night
My Cousin Vinny

Finally someone mentions The Blues Brothers! MANY great lines in that.

One of my favorite comedies is Cheech & Chong’s Next Movie. The welfare office scene stands the test of time as well as their interactions with their neighbor. Memorable lines as well: “I think they’re Iranians!”.

Being a lover of humor and a not particularly girlie-girl woman, I have seen around 35% of the total list of 100; but around 85% of my above list of the female critics’ favored comedies. Surprising to me!

Lol, I didn’t see any Cheech and Chong movies in the top 100. It’s a shame.

I like the scene where he’s got his motorcycle in his living room and he’s just sitting on it happily revving the engine...

lol

Is “Singing in the Rain” even a comedy?

I don’t get “Some LIke it Hot”. It’s way too long to sustain the same joke over and over again.

I don’t think it made the list, but I liked Albert Brooks’ “Mother,” with Debbie Reynolds. Brooks plays a recently divorced/separated man who returns home to live with his mother (Reynolds).

“I’ll throw in Caddyshack and Animal House. < I sure agree with Animal House. Lots of great quotes came from that movie. It was #47 on the list. According to the article, iAnimal House wasn’t higher because it wasn’t very popular with female critics. I wonder why.”

I went to college as an undergraduate from 1961 to 1965 at a major midwestern university and was a member of a fraternity all that time. I howled with total pleasure throughout the entire movie, since it encapsulated four years of wonderful, insane, gross silliness in just 90 minutes. The greatest scene was the drive in scene which immediately reminded me of the “Tale of the Girl With the Golden Arm” from my college days. Indeed, when I saw the scene, I screamed, “the girl with the Golden Arm!” Now, there ought to be somebody here who can correctly guess where I went to college.

Spinal Tap is worth watching.

If you like it, then watch it again on the DVD with the “commentary” on.

The actors will talk thru the movie in character.

It’s even funnier!

“Arsenic and Old Lace”, “Bringing up Baby”, “Operation Petticoat”, “Topper”, “His Girl Friday”. + More. One can make a top 10 list of just Cary Grant movies.

Agreed. And it was impossible watch a W. C. Fields movie without laughing continually.
